Membership

Membership is by invitation only and is highly selective (i.e. if you are a member, you are truly privileged).  Access to 'member only' parts of the site is by login via a username and password. Members should keep these credentials confidential and if they believe them to be compromised, should contact the Webmaster immediately (see below).

Member and user privacy are very important to us.  We never knowingly disclose user details to third parties without explicit permission.

Content

Site content is mostly original and users should assume that it is the copyright of NJ Birch. Items included by permission of others will generally have a copyright notice, or some other form of acknowledgement on the site.

For a complete statement of policy on copyright, please view the specific page on this topic - click here .

Third Party Content

Advertisements and embedded content may appear from time to time on this web site. Some of this content may be delivered by web advertising partners. In the course of serving advertisements, third-party advertisers may place or recognise a unique cookie on your browser. We cannot control this, but if it causes problems, the advertising will be removed on request.

Address and other ancillary information collected is kept private and never provided or sold to other parties.  Members' email addresses are never disclosed on public content.

Technical Issues

It is site policy to make njb.co.uk accessible to as wide a range of platforms, browsers and users as possible. In order to enjoy all the features of the site, please note:
  • Even though we are a predominantly non-public site, we do try to adhere to the W3C WAI, UK & EU (legal view) or US Section 508 standards for accessibility, but do not guarantee to do so.

  • The site is best viewed using Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, but it should work well with all browsers e.g. Chrome, Safari and Opera (including on the Wii games console).

  • For both security and usability, users are advised to maintain their browsers (and their operating systems) at the highest patch levels possible. We do.

  • Cascading style sheets are used for most display elements and the use of 'css' is progressively being extended to elements not defined in this way. No claim is made that the css used conforms either wholly or partly to W3C's Level 1 or Level 2 recommendations.

  • You should enable JavaScript in your browser settings.

  • Adobe (Macromedia) 'Flash' is used to display some video conmtent (e.g. Video from YouTube and Google).  This may mean that some content is not available oncertain devices e.g. iPhone.
  • Some documents are stored as Adobe Acrobat pdf files or in various Microsoft Office formats. Free reader software can be obtained from Adobe, Microsoft and others and and there may be links on this site under the 'Links' menu option.

  • A few innocuous popup windows are used. If your browser suppresses these you can safely enable popups for this site to enjoy all of its features.

  • Frames are not generally used on the site due to unpredictability of display etc.

  • Web safe colours are used as far as possible except for images.

  • 'Alt' tags are added to the majority of images.

  • Data may be stored on servers in the United States and/or Europe.
